We've all been there – it's time to move, and every square inch of vehicle space counts. You invite some friends over and start trying to work out how exactly that futon is going to wedge in between three boxes of clothes and all your dishes. Nothing can make moving completely painless, but these three key tips you can follow to make sure you (and your vehicle) pull things off without a hitch.
Prepare Your Car
Before you start loading your vehicle with your worldly possessions, take a few moments to really prepare your space. Clean out the car, removing any garbage or knickknacks. Fold down any seats you can. Take a moment to have your vehicle serviced, too – there's nothing worse than car trouble when you're in the middle of a move, especially if the car in trouble has all your stuff inside.
Plan Your Packing
Once your vehicle is certified ready-to-go, it's time to plan how you're going to load everything up. Take a few moments to realistically plan what can fit where, starting with your largest and bulkiest items; everything smaller can fit around the heavy stuff. Figure out which pieces of furniture you can most realistically fit into the interior at the same time, and how you plan to protect them: moving blankets are your friends.
Pack Smarter, Not Harder
The days when we needed to load up all of our things as densely as possible into flimsy cardboard boxes are over. Think smarter with your stuff, especially the clothing and soft goods. Roll whatever you can as tightly as possible, and consider packing it into bags. Bags mold themselves around larger objects and let you fit more things into the vehicle you've already loaded with planned furniture. For bonus effect, consider vacuum packing bags so that they take as low a profile as possible.
Most importantly, remember that you've got this! Moving can be difficult, but you're well equipped to manage things on your own as long as you remember these quick tips. If you need your vehicle serviced before the big move, we'd love to see you at Hyland Auto Repair today!
